Until Next Year

I, unlike most people I know, am not the biggest fan of summer.  My favourite time is now; the transition period when the sun is shinning but there is still a chill in the air.  During the winter slush and salt I’m constantly wearing my Tretorns, Sorels, or other practical shoes.  Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate warm, dry feet but I still ache to wear my cute boots. Alas suede, leather, and salt do not mix.  This is the season for cute shoes to shine, so farewell to my practical footwear….until the snow begins to fly.

Roll the Dice!!!

After working in an HR office and seeing firsthand the sheer volume of resumes that are received daily, I know that the odds of getting your dream job aren’t always in your favour.  Despite this knowledge I’m determined to keep searching in order to find my foothold. So on this overcast Sunday I have updated my LinkedIn profile, beautified my resume, searched job postings, and refreshed myself with a little Yoga; all to help me play the game again tomorrow.

Spring Time Cold

I’ve been feeling a little sluggish the last few days as I’ve come down with the dreaded spring time cold.  There really is nothing worse then feeling stuffed up with a sore throat while the sun is shining and the birds are chirping.  So I find myself curled up on the couch wearing my pj’s, wrapped up in my duvet with the patio door wide open trying to enjoy this beautiful weather.  The bright side to being stuck in the house is there is lots of free time for a little online shopping, it almost makes being sick a pleasure.  As I spent the day watching cheesy chick flicks and shopping I found a few items I’m hoping to purchase:

Like this beautiful necklace from Ruche.  Doesn’t it just look like spring!!!!

This gorgeous top, also from Ruche, that I have been coveting ever since seeing the girls of Delightful Dozen wearing it.

To Sell or Not to Sell

Now that the warmer weather is on the horizon it’s time for my wardrobe to change with the season.  I may be jumping the gun but I’m already packing away the wool coats and winter boots.  As I’m going through all my spring and summer shoes I’m wondering if I should maybe sell a few pairs to make room for a few new pieces…

…like these 80%20 shoes that just arrived from Anthropologie.

(Aren’t they great, I can’t wait until all the salt is gone so I can wear them!)

You can ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I’m the queen of purging.  When you live in a 520 sq. ft. loft with your boyfriend and 2 cats you really have no choice but to be a minimalist.  That being said when it comes to getting rid of shoes I have an extremely hard time. I take garbage bags full of clothes up to my sister and sister-in-law on a regular basis but I just can’t be as ruthless when it comes to my shoes.

(The sad thing is this is just a sampling, notice there are no boots present)

So after the whole exercise of going through all my shoes, (the total shall remain unwritten) I’ve found 5 pairs I’m contemplating getting rid of.  I’ll keep you posted if I decide to go through with it and sell them.

Thank you Wolfmother!!

I would hope by now that everyone has seen 500 Days of Summer, but if you haven’t you may not get this post (and you should go rent it).  That being said there is one scene that I really can relate to today…you know when Joseph Gordon Levitt is getting his shit together with Wolfmother’s Vagabond playing in the background.

I was having one of those days where I was getting a wee bit frustrated with the job search when Vagabound began playing on my ipod (ok, on my generic mp3 player).  The scene from the movie flashed through my mind and made me feel energized and ready to take on the world.

So thank you Wolfmother, I really needed a boost today!!!

On another note, does anyone else love the wardrobe in this movie as much as I do???

Macro for Micro

Macro for Micro LogoIf you have a second I’d love for everyone to go and check out the Macro for Micro site.  I’m proud to say that my friend has embarked on an amazing adventure to make the world a better place.  I know that may sound a bit grandiose but it’s the truth.

Right now my friend Isabella and 3 other Canadians are cycling across Australia to raise funds and awareness for microfinance.

I hope everyone will take a few minutes to check out their site. If you believe in their cause please help them out by spreading the word and donating any amount you can.

Thanks

Come on Spring!!

Everyone is starting to get Spring fever now that the nice weather is upon us. For those of us who love fashion, however, the new seasons bring more excitement…new collections!!!!!

I just wanted to post a few of the items that I have come across and fell madly in love with.

Pink Tartan is a designer who I love to see…we have to celebrate our Canadian designers!!! These pants look amazing and comfortable too boot!!!!

This dress by Diane von Furstenberg is perfection for spring/summer, I have imagined so many ways to accessorize it but unfortunately my budget will not allow me to buy this one  :(      If you have a little extra money this season I recommend you check out the rest of her collection, there are lots of beautiful floral dresses to be had.  As for me I will be keeping my eyes peeled for something similiar and in my price range.

Intentions & Introduction

A little bit about myself, I’m 29 (yikes) and a recent fashion graduate desperately trying to become a buyer. I’ve been working for an airline, which was fun but my contract has ended and since my heart lies in the world of fashion I’m now dedicating myself to finding a great entry level position.

Other things you should know about me:

- I shamefully admit that I have read the Twilight series more than once, but don’t worry I’m not one of the crazy delusional folks who is in love with Edward Cullen.

- One of my favourite movies is the Cutting Edge, an early 90’s movie about an injured hockey player who becomes a figure skater. It’s so cheesy but I love it!!!! “Toe Pick!”

- I own all three seasons of Arrested Development and watch them any time I need a good laugh!!

- I have 2 kittens and sometimes I think I’m destined to be a crazy cat lady.

- Lolcats always make me giggle (it fits with the crazy cat lady theory).

- I love Pearl Jam and Bob Dylan.

On Simply Sara I will be posting my hopes and frustrations as well as my opinion on current fashion trends and anything else that comes to mind. I will also be creating outfits out of pieces I find online, this way all my online browsing can be claimed as semi-productive. I will try to post pictures of some of the outfits I wear and love but unfortunately I’m cursed with the inability to keep my eyes open while pictures are being taken.
